Known Issues (2011Issue12).

  • Combined Searches giving inaccurate results:  Selected users reported back on issues with combined searches giving wrong result counts (total higher than the sum of its parts).  In all cases, this related to a old known Wiley InterScience Issue.  Searches were restricted to specific databases and when combined these database limits are lost. (Developmental point).
  • Cochrane Library display of Wiley Online Library maintenance message obscures the links to Cochrane Library databases.
  • Some PDF's have suffered with a technical error, with paragraphs being inserted incorrectly into following paragraphs, causing confusion in the text. Though it is possible to read the text,this has been corrected and the new PDF's will appear in the 18th January 2012Issue1. New and Updated Cochrane review 'CIted By' tab is occasionally showing Error message. This is being investigated and the fix is being tested, before release to the live system. (added 13th January).

With over 26,000 terms it would be helpful if you could still report this issue, after 21st May, by providing the name of the MeSH term used and the resulting the error message. dhives@wiley.com.

3. Search edits can give an error message, though they executed correctly, making the user think the edit failed. Also, amending a saved search can produce an error, starting with 'PreparedStatementCallback; SQL [select * from search_history_element where wiley......'.This will be corrected at the next scheduled monthly release, on 21st May 2011. There have been several efforts in the last few months to eliminate the error messages when editing searches. If you are continuing to get these error messages after 22nd May, please contact me, dhives@wiley.com, with information on what you were editing and the error message received.

4. Logout issues:  EZProxy Service - Resolved. Known Issues (2011Issue4)

1. For users authenticated with username and password only, if user goes to CDSR full text without previously being logged in, they are given the login screen but then taken to the “Advanced Search screen” and not the full text content.

2. Some search edits still give an error message even though they executed correctly.
a. During the edit process, there are still situations where an error message might appear making the user think the  edit failed
b. Workaround:  If you get an error message upon saving an edit, hit search history and review your edited search line.  In almost all cases, the search saved properly and you can ignore the message.   If the search did not save, check formatting of your search (matching parentheses, correct field tags, etc.)

3. Some MeSH term searches have resulted in the error message 'invalid or incomplete parameters'. This will be corrected at the next scheduled monthly release, on 14th May 2011. With over 26,000 terms it would be helpful if you could report this issue, by providing the name of the MeSH term used resulting in the error message.dhives@wiley.com

4. Amending a saved search produces an error starting with 'PreparedStatementCallback; SQL [select * from search_history_element where wiley......'.This will be corrected at the next scheduled monthly release, on 14th May 2011.

Status of major ongoing issues

1. Logout issuesEZProxy Service - For some institutional access, utilising the EZProxy service, we have discovered that some users may be suffering login/logout issues. This is due to the service providing a change in the URL.

Action - If you do suffer any issue with unexpected logout, please:

a) Contact dhives@wiley.com and include the URL as displayed in the address bar (screen shot or copy and paste). Also include your contact e-mail address for your IT department.
b) Contact your institutions IT department - Referencing the EZProxy service - they should be able to check the institutional setting for access, and ensure they are as details on the Wiley FAQ site. Selecting EZproxy configuration settings.

2. We were encouraging users to try hitting the refresh button, to see if this would reset the session. We now encourage users not to use the refresh button, since this is now being linked to lost search history issues.

3. Lost Search Histories:   A number of things have been looked at for improving this problem.
Since this issue was closely tied to the Logout issue, fixes made for the logout issues have improve this issue
User sessions are being retained for longer periods of time. Engineers have done work on limiting the number of times Cochrane users are bounced between servers, increasing from 6 to 12 servers, and number of times servers are reset, to reduce the impact of these activities on causing users to lose searches.  – Development of a permanent solution is in hand, with release shortly.

4. Duplicate Search Lines created:  There have been a number of issues identified that were contributing to the creation of duplicate search lines. Several of the issues related to duplicate search lines being created occur if a user clicks the back button while editing or adding new lines while working in search history.  We recommend users not use “Back” or “Refresh” buttons while editing searches. – Development of a solution is in hand, with release shortly.

5. If user performs an advanced or MeSH search and immediately begins browsing articles, each time they use the back button to browse back and forth between results, the last search is replicated in the search history.  This DOES NOT happen if browsing results from search history page. – Development of a solution is in hand, with release shortly.

6. Combined Searches giving wrong results:  Selected users reported back on issues with combined searches giving wrong result counts (total higher than the sum of its parts).  In all cases, this related to a known Wiley InterScience Issue.  Searches were restricted to specific databases and when combined these database limits are lost.

Users can search or browse:

Issue 3 - Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, About The Cochrane Collaboration database

Issue 1 - Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials; Cochrane Methodology Register, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Health Technology Assessments database, and NHS Economic Evaluations Database.

Known Issues (2011Issue3)

1. Broken Image Icons on the “By Review Group Page”
2. Error message for missing footer that is displayed at the bottom of the search history page
3. For users authenticated with username and password only, if user goes to CDSR full text without previously being logged in, they are given the login screen but then taken to the “Advanced Search screen” and not the full text content.

MeSH THESAURUS UPDATE
1. Issues with searching new or changed MeSH terms introduced in 2011 thesaurus.
    a. The 2011 thesaurus was put in place with the March update.  While new terms are appearing correctly in CDSR articles, the metadata to allow for searching these terms was not integrated properly, so searching using terms introduced in 2011 will give 0 hits.

Short term Resolution: Keyword search will allow users to find these new terms.  Wiley is working to get these metadata files updated correctly.

    b. Because CENTRAL is only loaded quarterly, these articles are not currently updated for the new thesaurus terms and some discontinued terms may still be indexed but not searchable from the 2011 thesaurus.
Short term Resolution: For terms that were discontinued in 2011 but still appear in CENTRAL, it is possible to find these by searching for the MeSH Code (search all fields and replace the period (.) with an underscore.  Example:  search for D09.698.373.400 as D09_698_373_400.  This should only be needed for this month.

    c. At the point that both CENTRAL and CDSR articles are updated with new terms, we recommended that users review the list of MeSH discontinued/new terms and terms with MeSH number changes.
i. For Discontinued/new terms:  User should edit the search line to use the new replacement term.
ii. For Terms that have moved in the MeSH hierarchy: User should edit search line and reselect term from the hierarchy.  This will ensure the proper MeSH code is being used in your search.

STATUS OF SOME MAJOR ONGOING ISSUES
1. Logout issues:  Issues causing users to be logged out after only a few minutes of searching and issues related to users getting “mixed messages” (header says they are logged in” but system is requesting they log-in) concerning their login status. This was thought to have been resolved, but we are further investigating as reports are that this has not been resolved.

We were encouraging users to try hitting the refresh button, to see if this would reset the session. We nowencourage users not  to use the refresh button, since this is now being linked to lost search history issues.

2. Lost Search Histories:   A number of things have been looked at for improving this problem
    Since this issue was closely tied to the Logout issue, fixes made for the logout issues have improve this issue
    User sessions are being retained for longer periods of time.
    Engineers have done work on limiting the number of times Cochrane users are bounced between servers, incresing from 6 to 12 servers, and number of times servers are reset, to reduce the impact of these activities on causing users to lose searches.

TWO THINGS ARE STILL PROBLEMATIC
    As was the case with Wiley InterScience, if a user during editing uses the back button repeatedly and starts to edit cached pages, this could result in unreliable results.  As with WIS, we would recommend users refrain from using the back button while working with saved searches.
    Use of the refresh button while editing searches, might be contributing to this problem.   Since using the Refresh was a workaround for the Logout issues which appear to be resolved, we are now advising users to refrain from using the “Refresh “ when editing.

3. Duplicate Search Lines created:  There have been a number of issues identified that were contributing to the creation of duplicate search lines.
Several of the issues related to duplicate search line being created if user hit the back button while editing or adding new lines while working in search history.  As stated earlier, we recommend users not use “Back” or “Refresh” buttons while editing searches.

THE FOLLOWING IS STILL A PROBLEM.  If user performs an advanced or MeSH search and immediately begins browsing articles, each time they use the back button to browse back and forth between results, the last search is replicated in the search history.  This DOES NOT happen if browsing results from search history page.

4. Some Saved Searches giving wrong results:   In January, Wiley engineers identified a series of searches saved within a specific timeframe that were giving wrong results.  Customers with this problem were identified and Colleen worked with these customers individually to update their searches.

5. Combined Searches giving wrong results:  Selected users reported back issues with combined search results giving wrong counts (total higher than the sum of its parts).  In all cases, this related to a known Wiley InterScience Issue.  Searches were restricted to specific databases and when combined these database limits are lost.

6. MeSH searches giving 0 counts when they previously gave counts:  These were linked to MeSH terms which had changes in the 2010 Thesaurus update.  User was able to edit the effected MeSH line and retrieve correct results.

• Search Line Display - The on screen display of search terms is restricted to 255 characters, for a search line, and therefore truncates the display query. [RESOLVED] There is no limit to the number of characters present in a search line.

KNOWN ISSUES

• Searches run and saved between 10-18th Jan, giving false results, to undergo data analysis - Analysis completed and Colleen has contacted all those affected by this problem.
• Search History : Duplicated rows displayed when clicking the refresh button.
• Search History : Error page displayed when deleting queries and clicking the back button.

• Saved Search Export Button: Intermittently shows blank page when downloaad box is displayed. (Report your experience of this to d.hives@wiley.com)

2011Issue1 - Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, About The Cochrane Collaboration database, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials; Cochrane Methodology Register, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Health Technology Assessments database, and NHS Economic Evaluations Database.

We have been working hard, to ensure that all testing of the new bug/fix release was robust and was fit for purpose. The extension to the testing period was to ensure that all key elements of the Cochrane Library search functionality are working up to your level of expectation. The latest release coincided with the new Issue release on the 19th January 2011. We appreciate the assistance we have received from the many users agreeing to test and feedback on this release.

The team meetings are taking place on a weekly basis, ensuring that proactive bug searching or reported incidence are reviewed and corrected as soon as possible.

Corrected Technical Issues

Content of Bug/ Fix in 19th Jan release:

•Cochrane Session State Not Consistent - Requested to login whilst on Saved Search
•Cochrane Search Strategy Save not Consistent - results in history disappearing temporarily
•Cochrane search history interface returns incorrect results
•Clinical Trials link and search results filter tabs broken on Cochrane
•Cochrane Search History generated queries cannot be executed from the proceeding link in search history
•Cochrane Search History : ERROR No such query as #2 in search history
•Cochrane Search History : Selecting [Run] after a short while displays "...please log in..." error even though user is still logged in

•Cochrane Search History : Running any query causes ERROR 1 >=0

Current Known Issues

•Search Strategy - Cut and paste errors - Search strategies may not return expected results. i.e. If a "#10 OR #11 OR #12" is pasted into a search, then you may need to manually edit/ enter the hash character and figures, to get the accurate results. Users may also report error messages detailing a "PreparedStatementCallback; uncategorized SQLException for SQL...". This is caused by characters, such a quotes, “ ”, which need to be manually replaced with " ". Temporary solution - Enter the search lines manually.
•PDF - the top board, above the PDF, links to the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, but shows an earlier issue. Temporary solution - Clicking any of the links will bring you back to the latest Issue results.
•New & Updated icons in some browsers rendering failure - The coloured New and Updated icons are displayed as broken images in the Browse by Review Group listing.
•Website Update and Archive Pages - Pages have temporatily been merged,to techinical issue with the Archive page. Resolution underway.

CHANGES DEC-Jan 2011

Jan 13th 2011

Search Results Page - The following databases are not accessible from this page:

Clinical Trials (Central), Methods Studies, Technology Assessment and Economic Evaluation. Users clicking on these links will be presented with an error page.

Buttons "Save search" & "Edit search" resolve to an error page.

Clicking the filter tabs, (Issue:, Restrict to:, Sort by: & Date order), for the search results will result in the display of the error page.

User may on occasions also receive the error notification page, asking for the user to login before they save a search, despite being logged in already.

Database Searching
For those users wishing to conduct a search we advise the utilisation of the advanced search and mark the database check box, selecting the database required, to obtain results.
Alternatively, a search will work by utilising your search history and editing your search, amending the “restrict by product” dropdown list to the database to be searched.

We appreciate the difficulties, and offer our apologise for the inconvenience caused to many of our users. We are making good progress with bug fixing for these search issues, and the testing is on going this week, with a planned patch/fix release on Monday. If you wish to keep up to date with developments, then please refer to this page for a release update on Monday 17th January.

Changes in DECEMBER 2010

New Wiley Platform

Wiley Online Library has completely replaced Wiley InterScience and all login details remain valid so that users continue with their same username and password.

Cochrane Library users should be aware of some known issues with the site. We have been working to rectify these for you, please review the fixes put in place:

Searching:

There are 3 search-related issues, we still encounter. The first is an intermittent problem and occasionally individual users are sufferering, rather than every user. Issue #2 will be cleaned up at some point but is a low priority. Issue #3 is a new complication, on 20th December, due to Wiley Online Library performance issues, which is being addressed.

1. Intermittent - If the system times out and you are on the search history page or saved search page, you will get a message saying you need to login. The “My Profile” status bar at the top right may not refresh and indicates you are logged in. This issue is resolved, but if you encountered this, you simply had to hit the logout button and then login again. This was limited to these 2 pages.

2. LOW (has no impact on searches or functionality): On the saved search pages and search history pages, an error message appears at the bottom of the page indicating “a selected resource” (search-web-footer) is not available. This is because we longer display general links for Wiley at the bottom of the page. It has no impact on your ability to run or save searches. This message will be removed shortly.

3. Intermittent - Wiley Online Library performance is having a direct effect on the Cochrane Library search and review rendering. F5 or Ctrl F5 may fix the issue, but if the problem continues please take screen shots and give as much detail as you can to describe your access problems. Then forward them to dhives@wiley.com. All other issues can go to Reporting a Problem below.

Browse:

Browse by Review Group (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/o/cochrane/cochrane_clsysrev_crglist_fs.html)
In some browsers, the coloured New and Updated icons are displayed as broken images in the Browse by Review Group listing.

Reporting a problem:

If you identify any other issues with your access or with navigating The Library, please go to the “Ask a Question” page on the Wiley Online Library Help page, choosing “Cochrane Library” from the “Category” drop down options:
http://onlinelibrary.custhelp.com/app/

This will enable your query to be logged and tracked by the Online Library help team.

We thank you for your patience during this transition.

Cochrane Library users should be aware of some known issues with the site. We have been working to rectify these for you, please review the fixes put in place:

Searching:

There were 2 search-related issues that have been resolved. The first two were prioritized. Issue #3 will be cleaned up at some point but is a low priority.

1. FIXED - If the system times out and you are on the search history page or saved search page, you will get a message saying you need to login. The “My Profile” status bar at the top right may not refresh and indicates you are logged in. This issue is resolved, but if you encountered this, you simply had to hit the logout button and then login again. This was limited to these 2 pages.
2. FIXED - When displaying “Saved Searches”, the sort order was changed to oldest searches at the top. This has been changed back to the original sort order, sort by date with most recent searches on the top.

Usage for 2009 grew by 19% for full text downloads from The Cochrane Library on Wiley InterScience. When considering usage across all web platforms (including Wiley InterScience, Cochrane.org, La Bibliotheca Cochrane Plus, Bireme, OVID and EBSCO) we estimate that there was a search on The Cochrane Library every 1 second, an abstract viewed every 2 seconds and a full text review downloaded every 3 seconds in 2009. Detailed reports are available on request.

Please note that for the 2009 top reviews report we have tried to include as many countries as possible and have included all reviews (note that each new citation version of a review is counted separately). Unfortunately we were still unable to include the review group. To find your reviews you will need to refer to author, title or the CD numbers. The “Summary” worksheet lists the reviews in their world rank order and gives the ranking for individual countries. We have tried to correct all misspelt surnames where the software could not recognise the characters, but apologies if there are still some errors.

changes in April 2010

14 April 2010

See the lists of new and updated Cochrane reviews. See the record counts table below for full details of numbers of records in this latest issue for all databases.

Please note that there is a delay publishing the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL). Users will still have access to Issue 1 of CENTRAL, published in January 2010, therefore all records marked as “New” in CENTRAL were new in January 2010, not April 2010.

The expected publication of the APRIL 2010 (Issue 2) of CENTRAL is in the next 7 -14 days. Please check The Cochrane Library homepage for updates prior to publication.

All other databases are unaffected and the latest issue of The Cochrane Library will be published online on 14 April (at approximately 15:00 GMT).

Update (27 April 2010) - The April publication of the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) is now online.

2010 MeSH Update to The Cochrane Library

This issue has been updated to use the 2010 MeSH thesaurus from the US National Library of Medicine (MeSH terms are present in most of Cochrane Reviews/CDSR, Other Reviews/DARE, Clinical Trials/CENTRAL records taken from MEDLINE, Technology Assessments/HTA and Economic Evaluations/NHS EED).

To assist users in better managing their saved searches, Wiley is providing a series of files which compare MeSH 2009 headings with MeSH 2010 headings. The files are as follows:

replace2010.xls: This is an Excel spreadsheet with two lists: replaced2010, showing 2009 MeSH headings and their 2010 replacements; deleted2009: showing 2009 MeSH headings that do not exist in 2010 MeSH.
mnchg2010.list.txt: This is the list of the 2944 MeSH descriptors that have changed position in the MeSH tree, either by moving wholesale or by having added or deleted positions.
replace2010.txt: This is the NLM source file from which replace2010.xls was generated.
mnchg2010.txt: This the NLM source file from which mnchg2010.list.txt was generated.
mshnew2010.txt: This is the list of the 422 new MeSH descriptors that have been added in the 2010 MeSH tree.

We are delighted to announce a new homepage for The Cochrane Library

What are the major changes?

The Cochrane Library has a new design for the homepage and related information pages. There are new features, including a browse list for the CDSR (by system, such as “Lungs and airways”), an Editorial, and Special Collections (to highlight specific groupings of reviews). The related information pages, such as “About The Cochrane Library” and “Help”, have been revised and reorganized to make it easier to navigate the content. We have introduced clear linkage to The Cochrane Collaboration site (www.cochrane.org) in the website header. The Collaboration site has also been re-designed and there is now a better navigation between the two sites.

For technical queries about the new Cochrane Library site, please contact Michelle Ames (mames@wiley.com) at John Wiley & Sons.

The Cochrane Library feature details

General look

The homepage aims for a fresh and modern look. It keeps some design elements from the previous site so that end users feel they have arrived at a familiar site. The new design extends to the related pages (e.g. “About The Cochrane Library”), but it does not extend to the individual Cochrane Reviews, or other individual articles or abstracts in other databases in The Cochrane Library.

Site navigation

The site navigation has been simplified and made easier to use. There is one navigation bar along the top with clear hover buttons based on actions users can take: sign up; learn; access; and help.

Browse list

The Cochrane Editorial Unit has developed a new browse list that includes Cochrane Reviews from all Cochrane Review Groups. End users can browse almost all Cochrane Reviews by health topic groups, such as by “Heart & circulation”, “Lungs & airways”, or “Infectious Disease”. There are 29 top layers, and the list goes to a maximum of three layers. The list includes completed reviews only, and reviews may be included in two or more of one of the layers; for example, an influenza review could be located via “Infectious disease” or “Lungs & airways”. The new browse list gives end users (and The Cochrane Collaboration) a new way to view and explore the breadth of content in the CDSR. This browse list is in addition to the usual ways to view CDSR content, such as lists of new and updated reviews, Cochrane Review Group topics lists, and the A-Z lists.

Editorials

The homepage will include an editorial, which will be updated at least monthly upon the publication of each new issue of the CDSR. The objective is to make the editorials a ‘must-read’ for anyone interested in promoting evidence-based healthcare and health policy. The consistent theme will be the contribution that systematic reviews of the medical literature can make to improving health outcomes. An RSS feed is available so that readers can be alerted whenever a new editorial is published.

Special Collections

Special Collections are another new feature. These are collections of reviews that can be used to highlight a specific topic or are collated in response to a global health topic. Each Special Collection will be highlighted on the homepage with an associated image for each, and links to the full collection. Each Special Collection starts with a short introduction followed by the list of reviews. We will include a brief introduction with each review and also hyperlinks to related resources, such as a translated abstract.

Highlighted reviews

Each new CDSR issue will include highlighted reviews. These will feature prominently on the homepage and will have links out to the podcasts and a journal club (if appropriate).

Information about 2010 publication frequency

The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) and the “About The Cochrane Collaboration ” database have moved to monthly publication from January 2010. The other databases will remain as quarterly publications, and the DVD-ROM will remain as a quarterly dispatch.
Starting in Issue 1 (January 2010), there will be changes to the Cochrane Review headers (the status and publication date information) and to some of the coloured status icons used in the CDSR contents pages. Users are now able to click through to content from the title of the article shown in search results (the word “Record” has now been removed from the search results display). When sorting search results by date, CDSR articles will now be sorted according to the month and year of the most recent version, regardless of whether this is a new citation version. IMPORTANT: Searches are also affected by these changes - in order to search for current issue content only, users must fill in the date range on the advanced search screen as 2010-2010. This will return results published in the recent January issue only. Saved searches by status will also be affected and must be re-run. Consult the information about 2010 publication frequency PDF for more detail.

The Cochrane Library is now available on DVD

The CD-ROM version of the Library has now been replaced by a DVD. All you need is a DVD drive for the installation and once installed, the issue will operate exactly the same as the CD-ROM version. The Full installation will still require 3.5 GB of free space on the hard drive and the Limited installation option (1.7 GB) will continue to be available.

We have decided to move to DVD for technical, performance and environmental reasons. The DVD version will allow for quicker and easier installation, less packaging and fewer discs.

View the Access to Cochrane page for more information on how to order the DVD version of The Cochrane Library.

Changes to The Cochrane Library Functionality and Display

PDF optimization continues. In this issue:

• Summary of Findings tables are now in landscape format, giving more space to each column.
• Table font has changed to Swiss Condensed 9pt with “ragged right” justification, to make them easier to read.
• The shorter “Abstract” PDF has been renamed “Summary” PDF. This PDF still contains the same text (Abstract, Plain Language Summary and bibliographic data) but is now labelled “Summary” PDF. The “Standard” and “Full” PDFs remain the same as in previous issues.

2009 MeSH Update to The Cochrane Library

This issue has been updated to use the 2009 MeSH thesaurus from the US National Library of Medicine (MeSH terms are present in most of Cochrane Reviews/CDSR, Other Reviews/DARE, Clinical Trials/CENTRAL records taken from MEDLINE, Technology Assessments/HTA and Economic Evaluations/NHS EED).

To assist users in better managing their saved searches, Wiley is providing a series of files which compare MeSH 2008 headings with MeSH 2009 headings. The files are as follows:
• replace2009.xls: This is an Excel spreadsheet with two lists: replaced2009, showing 2008 MeSH headings and their 2009 replacements; deleted2008: showing 2008 MeSH headings that do not exist in 2009 MeSH.
• mnchg2009.list.txt: This is the list of the 2759 MeSH descriptors that have changed position in the MeSH tree, either by moving wholesale or by having added or deleted positions.
• replace2009.txt: This is the NLM source file from which replace2009.xls was generated.
• mnchg2009.txt: This the NLM source file from which mnchg2009.list.txt was generated.
• mshnew2009.txt: This is the list of the 446 new MeSH descriptors that have been added in the 2009 MeSH tree.

Changes with Issue 1, 2009

21 January 2009

See the lists of new and updated Cochrane reviews. See the record counts table for full details of numbers of records in this issue for all databases.

Changes to The Cochrane Library Functionality and Display

Issue 1 introduces a new type of review – the Overviews of Reviews. These are intended primarily to overview multiple Cochrane intervention reviews addressing the effects of two or more potential interventions for a single condition or health problem. Cochrane Overviews highlight the Cochrane reviews that address these potential interventions and summarize their results for important outcomes. See the first overview of reviews protocol – Interventions for neovascular age-related macular degeneration in this issue. Overviews of Reviews have also been developed outside the Library and can be viewed in the Evidence-Based Child Health Journal: A Cochrane Review Journal at http://www.evidence-basedchildhealth.com.

PDF optimization work is in progress and users will see several improvements in this issue:

• Tables are now shaded and as a result much easier to interpret. This includes the Summary of Findings tables introduced in Issue 2, 2008 and also the What’s New and History tables;
• Summary of Findings (SoF) tables now start on a new page making them more likely to fit one page and therefore easier to analyse. If they must break over a page, a rule has been implemented to break on a new row wherever possible;
• Summary of Findings tables have been re-named slightly. The first table is now referred to as Summary of findings for the main comparison. Any further tables are now referred to as Additional summary of findings to reduce repetition of headings;
• The spacing within these SoF tables continues to be worked on to reduce the amount of white space and encourage tables to fit onto a single page;
There have also been several bug fixes, including:
• The plain language summary no longer starts on a new page – it immediately follows the end of the abstract;
• Links in the Standard PDF to Analyses and Appendices (which are not present in the Standard version) have been removed;
• Hyperlinks no longer overlap into the next column;
• Occurrences of HTML in the PDF headings are no longer present;
• Page references in the TOCs now correspond to their correct page;
• Missing data when tables continue onto the next page is now re-instated;
• Some errors with Data and Analyses are resolved;
• Table footnotes have been re-instated.

Here is a list of ongoing work in 2009:

• Spacing – those pages where only a few lines appear and then lots of blank space need to be examined;
• Uneven spacing between section headings and paragraphs – spacing needs to become consistent;
• Section headings or table headings appearing at the end of a page and text on the following page – the headings would ideally always start with the text;
• Hyphenation is not always logical;
• Text at the end of the page overlapping with the footer – the page needs to break sooner;
• Text in the left column sometimes starts lower down the page than the right column – this should be even;
• Monitor table text to make sure that no content is missing;
• Summary of Findings tables still require some work to make them more user-friendly.

Searching The Cochrane Library for reviews restricted by Group

Users are now able to restrict their searches to reviews within a specific group. The group code must be entered into the search box between double quotation marks, example: “HM-VASC” and Search all text must be selected from the drop down menu, used to limit the search.
